Swine-flu outbreak linked to Smithfield factory farms
[Residents of La Gloria,] like their counterparts who live in CAFO-heavy U.S. areas, they also complain of respiratory ailments. Now, with 30 percent of the area’s residents infected with the virulent flu bug, people are demanding that state and federal authorities inspect hog operations there.

I know some people who are very casual about the whole peanut butter salmonella thing etc...as if this casualness and careless attitude about manufacturing etc (not their own kitchen-their own kitchen is probably very nicely cleaned!) doesn't have the possibility of backfiring in a fairly bad and unethical way-whether bacterial or virus...

And people say it's only developing nations...well, yea, sure ya betcha, but it's not...people have TB and know it, and fly--and they're USians...and people ignore tests of their products...

Besides, most developing nations live very near developed countries.

It's all about greed and I'm sure these factories have been producing meat (or peanut butter or whatever) at the lowest possible cost, getting away with crap because $$$. The farms in the US are even bigger and we've been hearing for years how they're horrible for the environment, which yes, includes us :(
