I like a little experimentation now and then, but the directors need to remember to put the text first before all else. Sometimes it's just annoying, them trying to make "a statement" with something controversial.
Reminds me of the director Darren in Slings and Arrows. He felt that Hamlet was a dead text, so he'd show that by making a purposefully bad production of the work...I so wanted to punch that guy
