No me importa mucho. Tampoco me ofendo ser llamado ni 'gaijin' ni 'honky' ni 'whitey' ni nada así. Me parece que hay un tipo de gente estadounidense a quien le ofende mucho cosas como "Stuff White People Like" y la palabra 'gringo' y ese anuncio. Creo que un grupo con tanto poder no tiene el derecho de ser tan delicado todo el tiempo.
Frankly, I think 'gringo' is hilarious and that people should get over themselves. I don't think the word is neutral at all, but I don't care.
There's a certain kind of whiner who complains that everyone should be treated "alike" and if "we" have to be PC, how come Those People get to call us names? This ignores the very significant fact that being a white US citizen isn't the same as being other sorts of people. No disrespect to Mexico intended, but the balance of power is pretty much always in the US' favor, and poking fun at powerful groups/mainstream society/whatever is a standard way of trying to even the scales a little. Just look at the shocking racism of those responses to the ad--I've never seen anything even remotely similar directed at white idiots in the US. We don't even have language that rude for gringos for the most part.
