En un universo alternativo, Sam no fue a Stanford. Todo lo que es Sam se desmorona poco a poco.

What happens to a dream deferred?
Does it dry up
Like a raisin in the sun?
Or fester like a sore--
And then run?
Does it stink like rotten meat?
Or crust and sugar over--
like a syrupy sweet?
Maybe it just sags
like a heavy load.
Or does it explode?

Haven't read the story, but it struck me as... odd (esp. in light of recent discussions about White appropriation) to see this particular poem used as an epigraph on the tale of two White boys.

Hmmm, now that is odd. I mean, that discussion seemed to me to have happened in a whole different circle of people I read in LJ. But yeah, I get what you mean.

BTW, I keep thinking about the discussions on appropriation and doing a post in Spanish about it. Things is, I get the feeling that (1) I wouldn't really be clear on my feelings and (2) most of the people who read my Spanish LJ, who live outside the US, would have either no interest or would roll their eyes in exasperation, thinking the subject as something completely foreign to what concerns them.
