De eso si me entere... aunque no estoy clara en los detalles. Estaba aun la cosa a nivel de subtexto?

Ah, yeah, there is that. I haven't seen all the episodes, but he does fit the Alfred role in Torchwood, which is not exactly interesting. I actually liked him more before Cyberwoman.

Oy, "Cyberwoman". That was...just awful. I mean, the show's kinda rocky, but that really sank to new lows (it made me cringe more than Supernatural, which is my current benchmark of eyerolling). The actor playing Ianto is neither talented nor attractive, IMO (his bland looks could be saved if there were a personality there, but I haven't detected one yet), and that episode dragged everyone down to his level. Even John Barrowman seemed to be channeling Ten, rather than Nine, and shouting ineffectually.

Just no chemistry between Ianto and Jack, despite Barrowman's efforts. I've seen him with better actors, and he tends to rise to the occasion - he was better with Kevin Kline, and he was at his best with CE.

Glad to hear it! I mean, about Cyberwoman being painful. But isn't that kind of cheese a very commong thing in Dr. Who and Torchwood? Don't I just need to grin and bear it? I'm iffy when it comes to camp. I can enjoy it, but not all the time and definitely not in something like Cyberwoman, where the audience is supposed to feel badly for the characters, but I could only wonder why the suit had to look so stupid.

Not a Ianto fan I see ;) -- I haven't seen enough episodes to get a good feel for the characters.

Kevin Kline? Wow!

I dunno... Cyberwoman seemed particularly bad in terms of plot and acting, not just the metal bikini, but I've come to the conclusion that S1 of NewWho spoiled me. I watched the show in the past, but could never really get into it because of the lack of emotional connection - Blake's 7 had a similar cheese factor in the look of it, but it was practically Shakespearean in the emotional stakes. When I heard that they'd cast Christopher Eccleston and Billie Piper, my first reaction was "Whuh?" Because he's so incredibly intense and she's...a pop tart. But they worked a treat, best chemistry since Bogart and Bacall, IMO, and I thought that S1 was an exceptional bit of storytelling. S2 was, on the whole, not very good in terms of writing and acting (I still don't think David Tennant is a very good actor, never have, but I thought DW would play to his strengths - alas, it seems to push all his weaknesses, and Rose went down with the foundering 'ship), and I was holding out for Torchwood, which seems to be repeating all the problems of lack of character development and sloppy plotting that plagued S2. I'm beginning to get the feeling that S1 was a whopping aberration, and I'm disappointed.

Ianto is just so...meh. I don't think he's attractive (he's not ugly, he's just not very interesting-looking), and he and Jack have no chemistry whatsoever, which is mostly his fault. JB is trying. The two m/m pairings I have seen him do are both much better - Kevin Kline wasn't too happy doing the gay scenes in De-Lovely (there's a definite "yuck" in his tone in the commentary), but at least he tried; Eccleston never backs off anything, and for such a notorious straight boy (ie, lots of really hot girlfriends), really does go around liberally flaunting the homoeroticism. Who knows? Maybe he has a string of really hot boyfriends, too - his nephew is half of one of the "it" gay couples in Britain right now (he's some sort of technical whatsits in television, and he's dating a famous soap star), so clearly the family is remarkably relaxed about such things for working-class Northern Catholics!
